Anyone using the Gossen Luna Pro SR44 adapter?

I have a Luna Pro S, which I love, and have been using Wein cell PX625 replacements so far. However it seemed like every 3 months or so the accuracy would start to fall off so I decided to purchase the Gossen SR44 adapter which I got in today. Now it was my understanding that this adapter as supposed to make the meters work the same as if you were using the original mercury cells but, when I do the battery check, it doesn't line up with the red battery check mark. Is this normal? Thanks in advance for any help.

This probably won't help you much - I have ordered an adaptor for my Gossen Lunasix 3 (same as Luna Pro) but still waiting after 12 weeks. My thinking would be that the battery check should be the same as it should reduce the 1.55V of the silver oxide cell to 1.3V (2.6V for two), the same as original mercury batteries. How far off is it? Have you access to a multimeter to test the voltage, both battery and through adaptor? I recently had the experience of buying a new 6V silver oxide battery that would not power my RZ67. When I checked the voltage it was only 4.5 volts. I got it replaced but there was some disbelief from the counter staff.
Regards
Greg

Hi Greg,

Where did you order from that you are still waiting after 12 weeks??? Seems like an awfully long wait, even having to go to Australia I ended up getting my question answered elsewhere when I was given the following link:

http://www.buhla.de/Foto/batt-adapt-US.pdf

If you scroll down to the silver-oxide section it says that when used with an adapter it will not give a normal battery check reading but this is fine and to just note the new reading and this will be the new battery check point. The normal check point is 17-18 but, mine is reading 16-17. Not entirely clear on why the load on the test circuit would be different than during regular use but, if the difference is normal, than I guess I'll go with it.

Aaron,
I can't believe the wait either. The Australian distributor placed an order to Gossen late February. Apparently it is on a ship somewhere. I looked at getting one from the US but they wanted $30-40 postage!!!

$30-$40??? Ouch Mine cost about $45 with shipping from Adorama. After getting it in hand, even that seems expensive as I got basically a small ziploc bag with a little piece of plastic in it and poorly photocopied instructions...LOL Oh well, will still be cheaper in the long run than buying wein cells a few times a year.

And if you put a piece of scotch tape over the holes in the zinc-air battery when not in use, you will increase battery significantly. It stops the action activated by humidity.

Google 'CRIS'...they have various adapters to convert silver oxide cell voltage to the 1.35v constant output similar to mercury oxide button cells

I did the modification 3 or 4 years ago when the adapter was 25 bucks (From Keeble and Shuate in Palo Alto Ca). The battery check level isn't the same but the meter seems to work as it should. No difference in lower exposure values on the negative.

The official Luna Pro adapter holds both batteries. That's a pretty pricey conversion and I would be nervous about fitting both batteries with adapters into the battery well of the Luna Pro.
