I know the older C2 had some problems and no one has anything good to say about them. On the other hand no one seems to be reviewing the C2N. Apparently it is a completely different beast. Is this true?

If you are using it how is the film flatness?

Sure. I have never had film flatness problem I could see. The new type is not a completely different beast, just some parts are a little bit better made (winding?) I have taken hundreds of pics with it, it's a workhorse but winding must be gentle. The knob will serve for that, the little pin on it is just to turn it without a film in it.

I use an 'older' 6x7 C2 and it works fine. Procedure for loading is finicky, oh well. I remember when Calumet introduced the C2N 6x12 holder, at $800.00 I decided against it; I'd bet most potential buyers did too.

Both Horseman and Sinar are more expensive - what cheaper alternative is there then?
