Nope. I have scanned it and made digital negatives. I use double-sided, green latitude. Nice thing about scanning it in, is that you can sharpen it up a bit...and do all you dodge/burns.
No, but you gotta like the other characteristics that set it apart from regular camera film. Most x-ray film is double-sided, although you can get single-sided mammography if you look hard enough and pay a little more. It'll be orthochromatic or only blue-sensitive depending on which kind you get. But in terms of density, you can make it as dense or as thin as you like. The blue base is not a problem for scanning.
