anyone know where i can buy jobo tanks?

ive just got a cpe2 with a paper tank but im after a 1520 tank to develop 120 film in. alas ebay is bearing no fruits so im having to look elsewhere. anyone know where i can get them from? im in the uk by the way

When using on a CPE/CPA/CPP better to look at the 2500 system for rotary development. The spirals are wider and the tanks have a much more even development.

Hello !
Yes the 2500 spools are good but, as they are wider, need more chemistry to process a film. This is not a concern with cheap dev. like PMK or Rodinal but is questionable when one use Xtol or the like.
If I'm not mistaken, the tanks a re still availlable new (but at a price...)
Have a look at http://www.secondhanddarkroom.co.uk/ or at German second hand photographic shops... Jobo was very widespread there.

2521 (red lid), without elevator, 270ml. (Magnet coupling)
2523 (cog wheel), with elevator, 270ml

2502 spiral, 1x 135-36, 1x 220 roll film or 2x 120 roll film. 127 also possible.

Especially for C41 in rotary use the 2500 series tank. For precise C41 (and E6) development use the elevator because 3:15 minutes CD, must be accurate.

The Digibase C41 chemicals are working perfectly in the Jobo. But also my older Amaloco K54 kit (C41) chemicals were without any problem.

this may seem a bit thick but whats the difference in the cog lid and magnet? is it a case of th emagnet connects to the cpe without lift whilst the cog connects to the cpe with lift?

Without elevator you have to use the magnet. With elevator you use the cog wheel. This wheel fits into the elevator wheel. Up from the elevator you can fill the tank and empty the tank (to waste).

Yes it is.

The cog is for use with a lift (which can be applied to a CPA or to a CPP) and is applied to the lid.

The magnet is on the bottom of the tank if I understand well, so it can remain on the tank and you can use the same tank with a normal lid in a Jobo without lift, and with a lid to which a cog was applied with a Jobo with the lift.

ah i see, well i dont have the elevator so ill have to get the magnet. the print tank ive got with my cpe has a magnet base, can you transfer that to other tanks or is it 1 per tank? ive got my eye on the 1520 tank for doing my film developing in, the 2500 series are a bit too pricey for me.

For C41 the 1520 is not very good. You will get uneven development. Further you have to adjust the roller base for 1500 series too. They are smaller.

The 25XX series has been designed for rotery development. Without elevator you need 2521 (red lid) + one or two 2502 reels and a magnet nr. 1504.

1510 or 1520 you can use succesfully with inverse development. 250ml or 500ml (485ml).

Also possible to use a TAS processor in combination with the 1500 series:

When using B&W this is mostly the best method.

In rotery you need to install the "leicht rollers" light rollers, to have less torque on your CPE/CPA/CPP motor, running without water bath. With heavy tanks and without these rollers you will overload the motor of the Jobo system.

This is an overview of all Jobo tanks and their volume in rotery and inverse development.

A CPE can not handle the Expert drums, which is the most important difference with the CPA and CPP.
The rollers you have to change for 15XX, 25xx and 3xxx expert drums. When not using the water bath (=room temperature) you need to install the light rollers.

B&W rotary development is limited in amount of B&W developers because some developers do not like a lot of agitation. E.g. Rodinal is not suitable for rotary development. Your acutance will go down dramatically and the grain will grow. Rodinal needs very few agitation and also a lower developing temperature. It's based on Para-Amino Phenol.

i see. well ill only be processing c41 using the cpe rotation so either i use the 1520 tank or the 2521 tank. someone mentioned earlier though that the 1520 tank will not give even negative development. have you come across this at all?

25xx tanks is the way to go in rotary development. The spirals are also a bit easier to load due to the wider diameter.
When using the 15xx series in rotary you can have a lot of inconsistency.

Same tank, same problems. Only roll film has no perforation

If you want C41 35mm and roll film development in rotary without problems use the adviced tank system.

Hello !
The magnet is the original method of attachment of a tank to a Jobo processor. It is sitting at the bottom of the tank. The processor has a corresponding magnet coupling which is also used to drive the tank.
When you convert your processor to a lift, you remove the processor magnet and install a gear system to drive the tank. The tank is then put front first into the lift and when you lower the lift, it couple with the gear on the processor to rotate. The tank has, also to be converted to this use (I. E. have the corresponding gear on it's cover, be it from factory (reference # ending in 3) or added after sale (reference # ending in 1). In the later case, remove, if you can, the magnet to reduce the processors motor strain....
