Does anybody object if we divide shipping in a way similar to melb silver mine to make it more egalitarian?

"Shipping and other charges are shared based on the value of each person's order.. so if shipping is $100 on a $1000 order you will pay $1 shipping for each $10 you order... this makes it fair for people who only want to order a small quantity."

As you sent in the PM relative to individual shipping costs is quite fair, as you can have a a cheap item but it can take up alot of volume or be very heavy

While I have no skin in this order, I suggest splitting shipping by max(weight, cubic weight), which is how it's charged. Computing that is a bit annoying (spreadsheets required) and will be an approximation but IMHO is a bit fairer than pure item price unless you're all ordering the same kind of thing.
