I'm looking for information on a 4X5 press style camera made (?) by Rex Laboratories of Indianapolis, possibly in the '50s. I have only heard of one other of these things and they are not listed in McKeown's. It's kind of a cheap attempt at a Crown Graphic knockoff. Sort of. Anyone????

Carol Miller (Flutot's Camera Repair) has one, she sent me some pix of it last week. I believe it was designed for police use for crime scene photography. It looks pretty basic...

Thanks, Bob. I also have an inquiry in to the Indiana Historical Society asking for info on this company. I may contact Carol to get a serial number on hers. That may help give an indication of how many were made (???). Hi, David! Thanks for the welcome. This seems to be a great forum and I think I will enjoy it.

I found this old thread and thought maybe someone may have come across more information about it in the last 12 years. It's not a great camera but it is a little more durable and portable than my Crown Graphic if I want to take a 4x5 camera on a hike. I can easily fit it in an SLR kit bag with about 2 or 3 film holders and a few other necessities. I got it at a garage sale several years ago with an Ilex No. 3 Acme Synchro shutter with an Ilex Paragon Anastigmat f:4.5 E.F. 5 1/2"/140mm lens for $50. It uses an Anniversary Speed Graphic lens board so they are quite plentiful and easy to get.

I have (or had) one of those sitting on a shelf for years but It wasn't/isn't as nice as the one pictured above.
