Is anyone familiar with the Excalibur SP 3200 lights? B&H is selling a 2 light kit, for a good price, and I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with these lights. I was considering purchasing the kit, so I can play around with doing some table top floral studies.
I keep planning to get the kit but keeping finding new needs for the money. My Pentax 645 stopped working today so that sets the lights back some more.
When I was seriously looking at them I didn't find anybody with any bad words to say about them. The B&H kit seems to change with time. At one point I was sure it included a set of soft boxes in the price.
Robert:
I worked at a dealer who carried the Excalibur line as an entry level option.
We had a very high failure rate with the units, but it made it easy to sell up to a more reliable brand. This has been 3 or more years ago so maybe they've improved. Usually they failed right out of the box.
Since you're in Hawaii it would pay to invest a little more up front & save the $$ & frustration you may have to expend shipping the units back & forth to the mainland.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll take a look at some of the alternatives out there. I have a specific project in mind - I'm intreged by rbarker's "Asian Lillies" - I am not sure I want to spend a lot of money producing something similar, but since I have to buy practically all my photo supplies from the mainland, I want something that I can be reasonably sure will work when I need it to.
