Hi Everyone,

Years ago, I occasionally used Kodak T400CN film. At some point, Kodak replaced it with BW400CN. My most recent BW400CN rolls looked grainy and gritty, and I decided to not use it again. Possibly the film does not age well, or it had been mistreated. Regardless, a while ago, an eBay seller included a 35mm roll of T400CN film in an order. I thought, why not? I loaded it in my Leica IIIC with its 5cm Summitar. I exposed it at EI=120, giving it about 2 extra stops compared to the original 400. I had it developed at Photoland at Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington. What a surprise, it looks decent and has fine grain. And I was again pleased at the resolution of my 1949 Summitar. Here are a few samples (Nikon Coolscan 5000 scanner, saved as 16-bit TIFF). The purple example is full color RGB. These are resized to 800 pixels wide with minor sharpening added.

Do any of you use T400CN?

I shot it once in a while, on the papers I freelanced for the Mesa Tribune had moved to all color and had a mini lab, they sold off all their black and white gear, including a veriamate. When they wanted a spread in black and white they used T400 as it could be processed in the minilab.
