Any women interested in Youth Hosteling?

Are there any other women out there who are up for adventure? Maybe some that know the area?

There's a youth hostel about 5 miles from the gallery. their web site is http://www.hihostels.ca/hostels/Ontario/GreatLakes/HIToronto/Hostels/index.html
I don't know if that's too far, but the price might be right. I think there are 178 beds available, and they have group rates. Ladies? What do you think?

All these hostels (including HI-Toronto) are downtown, where the photographic opportunities are rich. It'll take you about 30 minutes to get to the APUG Conference via bus and subway.

Youth Hostels are places where you can stay that are cheaper than hotels. One of the places I looked into was $17/night. They can have several beds like a dorm room with bunk beds with a bathroom down the hall. You can get group rates. If you're backpacking or traveling inexpensively its cheap and a great way to meet people. I always wanted to travel across Europe that way. I don't know why they call them *youth* except that younger people seem to have more of an adventurous spirit. Sounds like fun to me!

"Youth", I believe because at one point, only students and kids could use them.. I believe in the last 10 - 20 years, they have become open to all....... Great post... Anyone have any European Hostel Links?

The Canadian Lodge is reputed to be among if not the best hostel in North America (as espoused by their website, many online reviewers, and a friend of mine who has done a lot of backpacking and staying in hostels in North America and Europe--he said his next trip is to South America!). One thing he said was that staying at a hostel is for those who can pack light. You are in a room with a number of other people who are usually complete strangers and so you have to be able to pack everything and carry it with you when you leave the hostel to avoid theft (after 6 years of "hostelling" he has never had anything stolen, but he says that it is still best to keep the opportunities for it to happen at a minimum). Many hostels now offer private, secure lockers to their guests into which you can lock your backpack at night.

Because of the location away from the conference I am hoping to split a hotel room a few minutes away from the gallery by foot and then if I have time to stay in Toronto longer (fingers crossed!) I am planning on switching to a hostel in downtown.

All good fun, as long as you don't mind sharing (possibly in bunk-beds) a room with 3 - 10 other people.
