After nearly buying Hasselblad's D-40 last night, Profoto's on camera flash heads came to light. Looks like A1X is no longer in production (still available new) and A10 current product. They both seem to target digital age and neither appears to be as non-dedicated version (all I see is for Sony/Canon/Niko/Fujifilm).

The questions I have to any users:

  • are they still useful/usable as non-dedicated units with auto operation ? hoping I can go this route, even if I'd get one for Fujifilm due to my digital gear
  • I am not familiar with Profoto except it is as top as it gets, with price to match, but it is quite intriguing looking at features and light shaping options, even for these small on/off camera units, but have heard from a user it is night and day difference in light quality and control
  • those who can compare A1X and A10 would be quite welcomed to pitch in
