I'm looking at those Catlabs kits of a Speed Graphic paired with the Heidosmat 150/2.8. i'd like to use it for both general photography using color and B&W film, and wet plate. I've found a small collection of B&W images from it on Flickr, but I was wondering if anyone here has any first hand knowledge of it? I've used speed graphics before, but only with shutter'd lenses, so the focal plane action would also be a little new to me. Seems like a great rig for wet plate though with it's bright aperture...

I have one. Mine is stuck to the front of a Copal 3 shutter. I use it in the studio with film and everywhere with wet plate. It's a good lens. Sharp over most of the 4x5 are, contrasty, interesting rendering of out of focus areas. It barely covers 4x5 though so you won't be using any movements.

I'd say go for it, but I bet CatLabs is charging a LOT more than you'd pay if you're patient on ebay.

Thanks for that! Yes but the Catlabs kit comes with some 'extras' so that evens it out a little, plus the RF cam should be right. I have a few questions... Can you attach a filter holder? How does it do with color? And care to share any images? I am ok with no movements. I rarely employ them anyway, and could always pick up a general LF lens.

Without extreme fabrication, you aren't going to be able to attach a filter to it. It does fine with color. I don't have anything I've shot with it scanned in.
