Any Melbourne APUG members?

Do any of the members of APUG from Melbourne and surrounds want to get together in January, 2005? Dates would have to fall in the first two weeks for me to be able to attend.

I'd love to meet up with some of you, since my home location of Kalgoorlie, WA, makes personal interaction with other real photographers impractical.

I'd love to meet up but am just too far away in Perth. 3 day drive is a bit far... and good old Qantas has recently doubled the frequent flyer points required to get anywhere which is a bit unfair for us West Aussies!!! Those points are becoming useless these days. Suppose it'll always get me to Kalgoorlie.

Qantas really doubled the FF points required? Are you sure. It used to cost us 30,000 points to go return to Broome. Now it's 60,000?

It cost me 120000 points for one flight from Perth to Cairns last year because I couldn't get a direct flight via the center and was penalised for a 12 hour trip Perth/Adelaide/Melbourne/Sydney/Cairns and didn't even want to fly the milkrun in the first place. I have tried in the past month to get another flight Perth/Cairns/Perth and was told it will cost me (if I get the direct flight) 60000 now instead of 30000!

Ooh, Olinda! I've got memories of catching the train and bus there when we had snow in the Dandenongs. I should have been at Uni, but how often does a trip to the snow cost $5?

Your neck of the woods would make a great meeting place, but we'll keep the options open for now. See how many others are interested first.

I think we've had enough time for people to express their interest. Time to set the wheels in motion.

How does Sunday afternoon, 2nd of January sound to people? The only reason I've suggested a Sunday is to fit in with work hours. I'm happy to do this one evening during the week, or even an afternoon during the week: I'll be on holiday so I won't be restricted time-wise.

You guys in Melbourne can suggest the time if the one I've chosen doesn't suit.

John, of course you're welcome. The more the merrier!

Robert, if yours is a Coopers or VB, I'll drink one for you. If you're planning to have a Fosters, I'll give it to John for you ...

Funny thing is, I have it on extremely good authority that Fosters is exactly the same as Crown. They only differ in the packaging and the marketing.

That would explain why nobody from Australia listed Crown as their favourite beer. I'd call Crown Lager the single most over-rated beer in the Australia - the power of marketing strikes again!

Hah!! If you Aussies won't drink that stuff, I can guarantee I won't either. Fosters tastes too much like American beers; I prefer something with a bit more body. Coopers or VB will be just fine.

You'll need to wait for the details - I haven't made them up yet!!!

We're waiting on various tour directors to give final approval before the date is finalised. Once that's done, we'll be able to make times and locations become a reality.

I have provisional approval from my tour director. One of my workmates is a big fan of rangefinderforum.com and when I mentioned the possible meeting to him he said he may be in as well. He's a film fan like us, so it's a potential two from SYD at this stage. We both would need to be back at work on Tuesday, so Sat/Sun works for us....
