Hello,
I am from Italy and I will spend the early January in New Orleans and maybe Memphis. Just for leisure. But during this journey I would like to visit some good photo shops, to purchase something in Europe is hard to find or it is very expensive.
Any suggestions? Thank you
best regards,
Carlo

Hello again...
it seems that in New Orleans ain't any good pro shops
And what about good photo shops in general, I mean good large stores of photo equipment (even not carrying large format gear)?
Thanks
Carlo

I've been to N.O. a lot but always bring the supplies I think I'll need. Most of the film you'll find there is consumer stuff...

I live 6 months of the year in New Orleans and regrettably, there are no "comprehensive" photo stores in the city any longer. Bring what you need or, order express mail from someone like B&H in New York while you are there.
There are lots of many interesting subjects for your lens to focus on.
Don't miss some of the cemeteries!
Enjoy & Be Safe.

If you have a car and can get out to the suburbs, there are two shops close to each other near Lakeside Mall and the Lake. Bennett's & Lakeside Camera. However, they may be 100% digital. I have not been in either shop since just prior to Katrina. I do know that they are open. I hear their ads on the radio.

There are analog folks in New Orleans. At least one is a member of the Leica Users Group. Join the group and ask your question there. There is a darkroom supply shop. I don't know if they also stock film.

Enjoy the city! Best food this side of Europe.

EDIT: I just realized that you may be looking for 4x5 and larger materials. Good luck! Bennett's used to have some used gear on hand. Mostly 35mm & some MF. I didn't see sheet film in N.O. since WAY before Katrina. However, that stuff would have been in the shops downtoen. I didn't go there often. Ask at the Leica user's Group. Somebody will know. Mention sheet film. Asking for a Pro shop doesn't narrow your search enough. Order from Freestyle Photo or B&H. Delivery in 3-4 days.

Hey Carsten!

If you make it to Memphis.. let me know. We do have a couple of shops, I would not call them comprehensive, but you can get some basic supplies. Plus, I would love the opportunity to show you around the city, I am somewhat of a history nut about this town.

Thank you guys!
I already booked a couple of restaurants I heard about! I know the food is wonderful there and I am kind of a foodie...
Tommy, thank you! If I'll drive to Memphis I will drop you a line!
