I recently acquired an OM Systems TG-7 as a new compact camera. From a hardware standpoint, it seems an excellent little piece of kit, and I have already had reason to appreciate the waterproof and shock-resistant properties. But in my opinion, the firmware sucks, and kneecaps the camera, preventing the shooter from utilizing the full capability that might other wise be useful; the firmware is heavy on automated "gimmick" modes but lacks the most basic manual modes, for example, and simple time exposures are almost impossible.
In older Canon compact cameras, there arose an aftermarket software project called CHDK that allowed the users of that equipment to do all kinds of things that the basic firmware did not, such as long exposures, intervalometry, light-triggered release, ultrafast shutter speeds, and more. I find myself wishing that something of the sort existed for the TG-7. Is anyone out there aware of any such project or software?
