I see where Nikon is coming out with a 36mp camera that they offer with and without AA filters. I shoot a lot with IR converted digital cameras and always wondered why my IR shots were markedly sharper than those taken with regular Digital cameras.

Lo and behold, Life Pixel, who converted my cameras, said they remove the AA filters as a matter of routine in the IR conversion process. I have no clue about the science of this, but I suspect some of the members here know about this. I also discovered that Leica's M9 does not use and AA filter, if you think M9 is a good camera.

Anyone know of a good reference on the subject?

The down side of removing the AA filter is the occasional distortion that can occure without that filter.

I had a D800 converted to IR, and it seems to work well. My D800E is easily the best digital camera I have ever owned.

My D800 is the best digicam I've ever owned, but maybe that isn't saying much. Its photos are wonderfully detailed and rich, for digital anyway. It isn't better or worse than film - just different. I like some of the differences, I loathe others. It is why I still shoot film (35,MF, and LF) even though I have this camera.
