Thank you for this. I was a little mystified by the line: "...showcases the exact combination of raw power and control that so fascinated Muir, Ansel’s friend and colleague."
I don't remember ever reading that the two even met though that would not be impossible since Muir died in December 1914. Anyone know more about this?

I looked at that shot and started chuckling to myself.....wow, it's so good it's just crazy. Talk about capturing the decisive moment.

Seems impossible indeed, as Adams was only 12 when Muir died, and, from what I read, did not visit Yosemite until 1916.

On the Sierra Club Website, they list Muir 's writings, not person, as an influence on Adams. Adams' Yosemite and the Sierra Nevada was published with texts by Muir in 1948.

Considering Adams was born in 1902 and Muir died in 1914, that indeed seems implausible.

Maybe they meant friend and colleague now...

Anyway this is a very good image, well composed, well executed and the mist rising up gives it an ethereal feel. The type of image Ansel was very good at.
