There is a very famous quote by the legendary Ansel Adams (that I can't recall the exact phrase)....

In this quote, he compared photography to music and basically said, the film is same thing as the sheet music but the printing is where performance happens.

Does anyone recall what exactly he said and where it was said?
Was that in "Negative"?

And I have been live by that. This is why digital can be so bloody steril.
I once got into the Fred Picker way of perfect print duplication and record keeping of how a print was made.
For many years now I wing it, as happy accidents happen that way.
