Ansco Hyfinol results

First, thanks to all who gave me what info they could on the stock of old developers I found. I finished my tests of Ansco Hyfinol. Stock solution diluted 1:1 @68f for 7 1/2 min on Plus-X gives a result very close to D-76 but with finer grain and a longer life in the tank. I am pleased with the look it gives and the fine detail is sharper (eyelashes). If you find any of this developer just use data for D-76. I will not test the other developers due to the small volume I have of each compared with the large stock of Hyfinol I found. I will just let my boy Scouts use them up but my opinion of the ansco developers is very high if you find them try them. Use D-23 or D-76 data for a starting point.

I recently came across information that Hyfinol is formula DK-50 but with 110 grams of Sodium Sulfite.

Where did you get that info from? I use DK-50 1:1 on a daily basis. If that's the case, DK-60A is the same as DK-50 and has more sodium Sulfite and I use that developer 1:3.

DK-50 To Hyfinol
As I recall speaking with a retired GAF specialist over 3 decades ago, the formula for Hyfinol is Kodak's DK-50 when it comes to the Metol, Hydroquinone and the Balanced Alkali, with the addition of 110 grams of sodium sulfite per liter. I hope that this helps. The "High Acutance" is due to the increased amount of sodium sulfite, which minimizes the grain clumping of the silver halides during development.

Thanks! I know it's been awhile as I had both, health and homeless issues, but I'm going to give it a try now and see what happens.
