Ansco (early) Anthony design 8x10" studio camera with Wollensack 14 1/2" Vitax (Petzval)

The lens is the MAIN EVENT here.
"Wollensack-Rochester No4 Vitax Portrait Lens 3.8" < Listed inside hood
EFL 14 1/2" listed on outer barel

Front and rear Elements blemish free, cement condition is as new, some evidence that these are coated lenses (blue/purple reflections) optic are very fine.

Studio shutter works with cable release.
Packard shutter has two bulbs. One for opening to focus, the other to cycle the shutter.
The blades of the packard shutter are good, and it functions well, they are not easy to use though, Two period correct shutter bulbs that are pliable and function. New rubber hose may be advisable, although it works.

The focus variator 0-5 settings moves smooth and as it should moving the rear inner elements to introduce chromatic aberation for a softer look
This is a "modernized" Petzval

I've made a few dozen portraits with this camera over the years. A self portrait made with it also won an Ilford B+W contest for me back in 1999. I've made bridal portraits and a portrait of my newborn daughter with it on 5x7" film.

Reducing back (5x7), 8x10 back, and SLIDING half frame 5x7 pack (could be used as full frame too with modification. Worried about film? I think Adox, and Foma will be around a long while.
You could modify a holder to do wet plate photographs too.

I made two videos for youtube that illustrate the camera

BONUS ELWOOD 5x7" enlarger complete with lenses, cones etc, I can give more info, but it's all there dusty in my basement. Google Elwood 5x7 these are HEAVY, and I will deliver per outline below.

The camera is also in Fine used condition. Original finish, minimum of gouges, there are a few holes drilled in the front standard to attach various things years ago. Original casters.

The packard shutter is "wired" with some practice can be used to fire electronic strobes (I say practice because it will file them more than once).

There are two releases, one for rapid use the other for focusing. This packard works fine, it just takes practice.

HOW DO I SHIP THIS 200 lb kit? The stand is sturdy and has some iron and a huge spring.

I propose that I will offer FREE transport to the following cities (or closer).
Item must be pre-paid, Item will be delivered as described, no re-evaluations, unless you pick up in my location.---Louisville, KY, Milwaukee, WI, Toledo, OH, Detroit, MI, St Louis, MO, Pittsburgh, PA, Cleveland, OH, Chicago, IL

I am in Lafayette, Indiana -home of Purdue University 100 miles south of Chicago, 60 Miles north of Indianapolis

I will include transport as described above. Transport based on MUTUAL Availability. (I have two kids and a job, but I don't see why we can't get it shipped within a couple weeks)

I am serious about moving this item (It's Listed on the auction site Buy it now price).
I don't use it anymore, it is a FUNCTIONING piece of photographic history, 3 double sided 8x10 film holders are included along with a partial box of 8x10" film. I'm sticking with 5x7" and smaller formats in a more portable fashion.

$5200 West Coast Denver meet-up more.. see below.

West Coast Buyers, we can figure out how to get it to you. For the right price, I'd visit Denver!

$4700, interesting trades, pickup truck, working Plaubel Makina + cash

Someone asked how I arrived at price seeing that there is legend they come up on craigslist for $200...

I don't know how any price is arrived at. Be it 90 year old car, camera, or wedding dress.
Condition, rarity, location, and need / desire! All this is factored to the individual.

I don't think $1200 "crons" with issues that "wont effect image quality" are worth $300 to me as a "user".

I don't know how any price is arrived at.... wait we all do... willingness to do, or part with vs willingness to part with cash. Econ 101
Sure you can get lucky on criags list....
......or drive 200 miles to a no show, or have your wallet stolen. (it happens, I have a story about an outboard motor via that "list")

The lens.. examples like it sell on here now and then for nearly $2000 sometimes more. And mine is about 5 degrees from new.
The camera, has never been wet, repaired, sat on, it's not wobbly in the least.
The stand... who knows, but it isn't a mess either.
The reducing back, and matching sliding back are nothing to sneeze at. $300-$500 if you need it.
I doubt I will get what I want. but considering the "artisanal" craze of everything, including the enlarger (with lenses thats worth another $200 on any day delivered),
You could spend less assembling parts from around the net, or buy the "studio and darkroom" from me. Need trays... I have trays! 20x30 to 5x7!
You would be ready to open an Artisanal Photo Studio all you would need is the backdrops.
I tried offering "Artisanal Style work" here in Indiana I couldn't get takers to sit for the camera and give them 2, 8x10" prints for $75.. that's as low as I go on that.
I paid $2500 for a Hasselblad and one lens years ago.. so I think $3500 or higher is worth it.
I'd keep it for less, who knows I might end up in a beach town where I can offer my skills with the slow pace of film to vacationers? (semi-retirement pipe dream?)
I would could wait and look and look for a $1000 Ferrari on Craigslist, or $200 for a rig like mine... for someone that needs what I have, and laying out my willingness to personally deliver said goods is worth $500 in itself, as truck would cost the same and not sure how well cargo freight transport would care for this.

Bump.. I thought I was going to change my mind... No I'm still selling the big cyclops.
Elwood 5x7" enlarger, carriers, and lens (s) included. Want specifics pm me and I'll go to the dungeon where the Elwood sleeps.
NOW >>>>$3650 but my willingness to deliver to Denver or Boston is off the table at that price.
This will be last price reduction. It's a fine set up and finding another in this condition with willing seller, welll look around.

I should post photos and take an inventory of the enlarger lenses.
Some woman came in the studio and said she would like to turn this into a "wine rack".
I'm willing to deliver (I like road trips) let's talk if you are interested.

I photographed a women with it last Saturday... haven't developed the sheets yet... but I'm re-evaluating my studio still and don't see a place for this. I am even questioning the place my Toyo-view had a few months ago. I am going with a "use it regularly, or loose it" mentality. Hasselblad 50mm was sold last month, hadn't used that lens much in 7 years. Same with the 300 2.8.. just taking up space in the trunk of the car.

<BUMP>

pricing

I have bought a couple of these lenses over the past 12 months (16" #5's) and both were less than $900 each and I noticed one sell on Ebay recently (couple of week ago) for $900 odd so I expect that is pretty much what the market will bear as far as the lens goes. I hope this is of some help.

Chris.

Bump... (perhaps I am turning into the people that have Plaubel Makina for sale for years) My business is changing, my studio may be transformed into a bakery and coffee shop, and I'm going to move to a smaller place. I am getting old, and have less time for off the beaten track projects)

Reasonable offers considered. I may refuse your offer, but will not flame you. I'd still rather not break up the set. I've had offers for the lens without the camera in four digits.

The lens is very clean and un-abused, no evidence of edge separation. Clean purplish even coating on the lens. It has no dents to the barrel or abrasions. I've seen what sells for $900 on e-bay and this is much better.

Thanks!
