Camera World of NC (not the Camera World affiliated with Ritz, this store was independent) is closing here in Charlotte, after 40 years in business.

I stopped by today and bought two 5-liter mixes of ID-11, 200 sheets of 5x7 RC VC luster paper, 62mm orange filter with a 52-62 step-up ring. All for $40.

It's so sad to see the store go. They really helped me a lot when I was first starting out with B&W darkroom (before I found APUG, that is), and now it's gone. Where else will I go when I need a gallon of Dektol now, and can't wait a week for a delivery from Freestyle?

Just a word to the others here: if you live close to Charlotte, it may be worth your time to stop by---they're selling a lot of studio lighting, used film cameras on consignment, etc.

A restaurant I frequent sends a monthly email. This month the owner sent this:
So here's my resolution, and I'm hoping it could be one of yours as well: before I go out and spend, I'm going to stop and ask myself, "Could I be getting this at someplace I'll miss if it's gone?" Don't fret, we're not disappearing; we'll be here for a good long spell, I imagine. This is just a reminder from your friendly neighborhood Neighborhood Restaurant.

He was a bit reflexive as another restaurant he was associated with had just closed. But he makes a good point. If you have a camera/photo shop that you would miss if they were gone, maybe you could frequent .

For me I am left with shopping online. Don't get me wrong I love Freestyle, but it is not the same as going shop and chewing the fat about you latest ( fill in the blank ) bragging rights. If you still have a film monger give them your business if you would miss them when they are gone.

I eat at that restaurant tonight. First time ever I had to wait for a table, I eat there every Tuesday, I kidded the owner he had shamed everyone in coming. It OK as long as they remember next week and the week after.

Support your local photo dealer, or any local business you would miss.

We have taken the risk/steps at our shop to bring at least a little something to the people in Jacksonville, Fl. We were a lab for 20 without selling any retail. About this time last year the last "Real" Camera store here closed, so to keep us afloat and reintroduces products to the community, we started up with film and darkroom supplies. It's a bit limited right now, but getting bigger week after week.
