Jerry's recent thread on his new web site inspired me to get my own up: http://mseverson.com
If you'd like to take a look at it, I'd appreciate comments.

Thanks,

Mark

You did that in a couple days?!!?

I liked it, especially the "Southwest" gallery which held some unexpected subject matter, and the subject matter I did expect was photographed in a fresh, strong way. I also liked your choice of the warm-ish, middle-ish gray background as it sets off both the dark and light print values. Another quality launch!

Nice portrait too, even if it hasn't been subjected to any schwabification

Well designed in terms of navigation and colour schemes with great pictures. Nice one! If I was being picky, and this is just my preference, the option to click on an image and have it open larger would be nice. I don't think the current size always does justice to the scale represented in your images, but that's just me.

Cheers, Lol

Hi Marko, Nice design, very smooth. runs perfectly on Opera on my linux machine. Maybe an idea to add a link page?

cheers,

oh I forgot,
and a statistics counter. so you can keep track of how many visitors are viewing your website. I like http://www.statcounter.com no popups and easy to install.

Thank you all for your comments. I'm glad you liked the southwest stuff, Murray. I worked on the site for 2 or 3 weeks in the evenings, then I was putting off the step of signing up with a hosting service, getting the domain name, loading the files on the server, etc., because I thought that might be hard, but it turned out to take about 10 minutes!

Lol, I set the sizes of the photos so that when you click on one of the thumbnails the resulting image would fit on the screen of my wife's laptop, which has the smallest screen I tested. I'll think about adding a "larger image" link to each for those who want to see it that way.

ijsbeer, I'm glad it worked fine with Opera - that's one I didn't test.

Thanks again,

Mark

Mark: well done, my friend! I like the look alot. Some of the images take a bit to load, and I have a pretty fast connection. When I was doing mine, Tim Rudman had his son review it, and commented that my images were much larger than they needed to be. He urged me to reduce the resolution which helped some. Either that or use the thumbnail preview trick that Bill Schwab taught me.

Merry Christmas,
Dan

Mark, really nice site. I enjoyed your images and the size was just right for my monitor.
Best, Jim

Mark I can reccommend Google Analytics as a free website counter/stats tool. I use it on mine with no problems at all.
I know what you mean about designing a site where you try to keep everyone happy in terms of what will fit on one screen and not another etc. I just think it's a shame not to see those pictures in all their glory.
Cheers, Lol

Thank you, Dan, DarkroomExperimente, Jim, and Lol for your nice comments. I'll take a look at those counters - my hosting service has one built in, but I haven't tried to interpret its output yet.

I've taken a shot at providing larger versions of the photographs. Now, once you have clicked on one of the thumbnails to take you to the medium-sized version which was there before, you have the option of clicking on that medium-sized image or on the "larger" link in the navigation panel to take you to one which is 50% larger. Then you can navigate through the larger versions with the "next" and "previous" buttons, or go back to the smaller ones. If you get a chance, let me know if I've now made the navigation confusing or any other problems.

I have to get back to doing some actual photography - this web design stuff can eat up all your time. Oh, well, I guess anything worth doing is worth doing to excess.

Thanks,

Mark

Being that I'm not that computer savvy. I need to develope a simple website. I've had a domain for some time now but just can't bring myself to tackle the task. Has anyone taken a look at Register.com and the sites they offer with the templates and programs? I have had their simple 5 page website program for sometime now but haven't done a thing with it. They do offer tech support but I'm just to busy with everything else ( or that's been my excuse so far) to attempt to start on this task. I welcome any and all opinions about Register.com. Thanks, Robert
