Ok,
here it's my problem, i have one roll of rollei retro 100 shooted as 400 iso film, my mistake, i have plenty of rolls so i wanna try to do some testing before messing my precious pictures. Wich developer would you choose to do the testing with the goal on mind to not get so much grain, and wich for the best possible tonality? I've already seen some times and developers to start experimenting on the net, but if anyone has ever faced my problem with the same film or with apx100 any help will be appreciated, because i'm quite broke at the time to buy 5 diferent developers (got some hc110 and rodinal still left)

If it were me I would use either the HC110 you have or get some D76. Your just basically doing a 2 stop push so I wouldn't sweat it to much.

I'd use the HC-110, diluted to 1:63, starting your testing at four times the recommended time for dilution B (2x for the extra dilution, and 2x for the push). You should have about a 30 minute developing time with this method. Your negatives will, of course, be lacking in low-end tone/detail, and will be high in contrast. The long development time due to high dilution will help support whatever can be supported in the low end. The prints will be grainy.

I don't think a 2 stop push should require 2x your normal dev time.

My advice is shoot a test roll do a snip test dev in the same stuff you always use and add 50% to your normal dev times.

Inspect the film, do a contact, and adjust the time accordingly. If you think you have a good time on the 2nd or third test, but the film is too contrasty (limited shadow and or hot highlights) start over:

Use your best time doubled and halve your agitation :e.g If the best time was 5min agitated every 30s (10 agitation) go to 10 mins and agitate every 2min. (5 total agitations)

Test your film and repeat until you have what you think is as good as it can be. Adjust the time up or down to get good shadow -midtone and adjust agitation to keep the highlights from going too hot.

Its only my 2cents and I am no B/W expert.

HC-110 1:63 (double the dilution of the common dilution B) usually requires something in the neighborhood of 2x normal time for a two stop push...if it can even make the push. In 250 mL of solution, this is about 4 mL of syrup, which is how much syrup is used up developing an "average" roll, not pushed. At this dilution, it tends to "poop out" a bit if pushing. At any rate, it is a decent starting point for testing, which is all I was recommending.
