Last night I mixed up a gallon of Ansco 130, and used Sodium Carbonate Anhydrous instead of Monohydrate. I used the same weight that is on the Formulary formula for Monohydrate, and then reread the damn thing after I was done and realized my mistake. I'm no chemist. What have I done, and is it useful the way it is. How can I make it right without remixing the whole thing. Help

If I don't hear from anyone, I'll try and develop some prints and see what happens, but would like some advise.

It will probably not make much difference. You should have used 0.855 times as much of the anhydrous form.

If you knew the correct pH of the developer, then you could adjust the pH of the "wrong" developer by addition of acid or base. I suspect that the pH is too high and it would take addition of acid to fix this. I suggest 37% battery acid (sulfuric) added dropwise while wearing gloves and goggles as it will fizz up. The concentrated acid will not over dilute the developer.

This is a last ditch effort though for a failed mix.

With what you have and making no correction, you will probably get a 20% or so contrast increase along with faster development.

Good luck.

wow,
a lot of work for an extra .145g sodium carbonate ...
i am no expert in these things, but it seems worth it just to make
a few prints and see if it makes much of a difference ...

good luck !

Thanks guys. I'll just give it a try with a short bath in developer and transfer to a water bath for a while if it is getting too contrast.
