Analogy between cameras and cars

If you were to make an analogy between cameras and cars, what may you suggest? I would suggest the Leica M2 is an Aston Martin DB5.

Well lets see, my M3 would be a Chevy 1/2 ton, the M5 a Buick Wildcat the Nikon F5 reminds me of a souped up Volvo and my behemoth Laborator enlarger would be likened to a Sherman tank. My Rollei TLR reminds me of a sexy German model as photographed by Helmut Newton.

I really like this idea.

The Leica M2 is a bicycle, perhaps a nice rare vintage 12 speed. I don't know of any famous German bicycles, but there must be one.

My Rollei B35 is a VW beetle, small, but does the job. My Canon EOS 300's are Toyota Carollas, cheap and reliable, throw them out when they quit. My Spotmatic II is like a good pickup, built to do a lot of work and take a little abuse in it's stride.
My digitals are like that Chinese car, the "Cherry". They work ok, but shortly after use, you're left hungry.........

The problem I have with digital is I never seem "full" in the first place. :munch:

I go wider with the analogy thing and say

Contax is like a finer luxury car
Nikons are beefy, reliable, get it done muscle cars of the 60's
Hasselblad (V series) is a finely machined eurocar like a Benz or…

Digital cameras are like cars - boring from point A to B comfortible (sit comfortably, ACed room, fart, pick your nose and listen music) body carriers.

Film cameras are like two wheelers - you feel and experience everything between the journey. It's not about the destination, it's about the journey - they move your soul.

My Chamonix 4X5 is a black Beemer with tinted windows.

My 9.5X20" Indian Camera with modern Chamonix film holders is an Isotta Fraschini

and my Ciro-Flex is a 1949 Ford shoebox

I was thinking of the fact I insist on a manual transmission in my cars (those outside the US may not realize how hard it can be to even FIND one here when car shopping) and like film cameras that are either all manual or at least have full manual over rides.

I bought a car in Dec. 2010. Because I insisted on the manual transmission and a few other, much more common, options, the local dealer had to get one for me from a dealer in Florida.

Nah, I think the F4 is a jeep instead of a hummer, the F4 doesn't suck that much juice.

I'd say that the Mamiya 7 II is more of a Nissan GTR -- quick to use, technically perfect, but lacking a soul.

My Nikon FE is like a Toyota Hi-Lux, it's perfect in it's simplicity and just will always work.

The Pentax ME is like a Miata. Crisp, quick, but a bit adolescent in some ways.

And finally, the 6x17 4x5 system....well, that's more like a Diesel Pickup with a giant camper shell on the back.
