Good morning,

I would like to introduce myself, my name is Rob and I just picked up my first analog camera. Thats right, first, as a child of the digital age my only memories of analog photography is mom taking pictures with her Petri, back in the early 90s.
I have been taking pictures with my D-SLR for a couple of years now. For some reason a while ago, I found myself looking for that old Petri, wondering what it would be like to be using an analog camera as opposed to my Nikon. When I finally relocated that camera I played around with it for a little while, but never got myself to pickup a film and start shooting.

A few weeks ago though, I ran into an Olympus OM-1n, immediately fell in love with the way the camera looks and handles. So last week, with that situation of the Petri fresh in my memory, I got myself a film and some hearing aid batteries, so I could take pictures last weekend. Everything was going like planned, until I started loading the film. This is were is all went south, after successfully putting the film into the spool, pulling the advance lever and closing the camera, my brilliant mind decided it would a great idea, to check if the film was correctly inserted. So, like my mom used to do with her old Petri, I start rewinding the rewind crank, after a few couple of rotations I didn't feel any resistance. So I decided to start from scratch, take out the film and do it all over again. So I put the camera in "rewind" mode, by flipping the "r" button on the front of the camera, rewinding some more and then I opened the camera. After realizing there was no film strip left, it hit me, I only bought one film. That was it for the weekend, no more plans.

24 hours later, I'm sitting here sharing this story with all of you, with a big smile on my face. Because I realize, even though I didn't take any pictures yet, analog photography is growing on me. Thats the beauty aint it?

Welcome to Apug!

Stories like that originated the introduction of Instamatic film...

But seen your enthusiasm I'm sure you conquer any future mishaps.

hey rob, next time wind the camera a frame BEFORE closing the back to make sure it has caught.

meanwhile, if you take that roll to a 1-hour lab at Walgreens (or similar lab where you are) they can fish the end of that roll of film out for you and you can shoot that roll as well.

good luck, keep shooting. The Olympus is a sweet little camera.

Welcome Rob. This is a nice place within the cyberspace.

Hi Rob, welcome to APUG and don't be discouraged by a silly mishap. We all had some of these and more. Olympus OM 1N is a wonderful camera. I have one in my trunk right now.
