Hi all! I have a question:
I have recently bought some Kodak Technidol developer, it comes in liquid form, in small pouches, and the instructions say to dilute that liquid in enough water to get ~230ml (I can't remember the exact amount and can't check since I'm not at home, but it was around that number, less than 300ml for sure). The thing is that my developing tank says it needs ~450ml for 35mm film (and I checked and it does in fact need that much to fully cover one reel). So, my question is, what do I do? Do I dilute one pouch of developer in more water? or add more developer?

Thanks for the answer!! But those intructions are the same as the ones my developer came with and it doesn't answer the question...
Or do I just make the amount of solution it says there and the agitation takes care of the piece of film that isn't submerged in the solution?

I had the same situation: from one bottle I can make 600 ml - and for 2 rolls I need 650-700 ml. I just made 700 ml and developed for 2 minutes longer. Worked for me, but YMMV.

Thanks! I will wait a bit to see what other reply, and if nothing says anything different I'll do this =)

Also, can I use this developer to develop a roll of Fomapan 200? Should I do anything different?

The instructions look pretty clear to me, one packet makes 8 ounces. If you need more, then mix two packets. I don't know what tank you have, my stainless single reel tank uses 8 oz. my two reel needs 16 oz. My plastic tank requires 11 oz for one reel and 20 oz for two 35 mm reels. It uses 14 oz for 127 film and 20 oz for a single roll of 120.

Yes, but the way it is written implies also "more developer for more film" it says to mix more developer if you are developing two rolls of 35mm film. In my case, I need more liquid, but it's still only one roll of film. Don't I risk overdeloping it if I use more developer?

You need as much as it takes to cover the film. If you are looking to mix 1+1 like D-76 to make it go farther, then you need to experiment.

An easy solution is to get a smaller tank so that 8 oz is enough to cover one 35mm film. Then your dilemma will be moot. That seems to be the standard amount of solution in metal tanks.

If 8 oz is not enough to cover the film in your tank, then you'll have to either mix two packets in double the amount of water, or use more water. Either way, concentration or available developer in solution will change, so the timing will be a bit off. Then you'll need to experiment a bit.

Technidol is rare and expensive - I would use it for special films like Technical pan, or Adox CMS 20. Fomapan 200 you can develop with nice results in any standard developer (ID11, D76, Rodinal HC 110 ...)
