I'm looking for someone to share in 1 kilo of Amidol. An Adelaide company can supply me with a kilo for $730 + GST + $25 ship to Melbourne. For comparison, a local well known photo-supplies store charges $1800 for a kilo of Amidol. It is terribly frustrating now that Photo Formulary cannot/won't ship it to Australia since 9/11. I really can't afford a whole kilo to myself so I'm hoping there's an Aussie APUG'er who would like some. The Amidol is photographic grade.

Hi blokeman, I have some surplus Amidol that I puchased inthe large amidol buy organized by Apugger Greg Davis. My cost per 1 lb (0.454 kilo) plastic jar of Amidol was $62.10 USD (including packaging and shipping to me).

If you are interested in buying a pound at my cost plus shipping and there is some method of shipping it to Australia (maybe surface freight??), PM me.

Tip: Make sure you guys are straight on exactly which dollars you're talking about. The price quoted by Blokeman sounded outrageous compared to Artcraft's price until I reflected upon the fact that he must be talking about Australian bucks.

At close of business yesterday, Australian dollars were trading at $0.7537/41 US. That makes Artcraft's price about $570.00 / kilo Australian. $730.00 is still pretty bad in comparison, but not as shocking as I had originally thought.

Considering that the Australian price includes the cost to get it to Australia (since it is already there), $730 isn't that horrific compared to Artcraft. It costs quite a bit to mail a kilo of anything overseas, and Australia is pretty geographically remote.

I don't know how large a kg package of amidol might be, but if it fits into a USPS Global Priority large envelope, it can get to Oz for $9.50 US. My packages usually get from the US midwest to south of Melbourne in 4 business days or so. They can weigh up to 4 lbs for that rate and I have been using it for years with no problems.
Cheers,
Richard

Errr... I wouldn't ship it via USPS if I were you; it is classified as Hazmat and they will likely hang you by the nads if it spills in transit. Of course, they ARE your nads and you are free to do whatever you want with them!

Just a friendly bit o' advice.

The Greg Davis Chinese Amidol that I have was weighed and packaged by Photographers Formulary in shrink wrap sealed, screw lid, cylindrical plastic bottles. The 1 pound bottle dimensions are 6.5 inches high by 3.5 inches diameter. I recently mailed a 1 pound bottle of Artcraft Amidol (similar container) to Arizona via USPS priority mail. I bubble wrapped the plastic bottle and put it in a shipping box just big enough to hold it. For converting US dollars to OZ dollars and vice versa, Google currency conversion. PayPal will also convert it for you.

Tom; that's a generous offer & I may well yet take you up on it. I quote aussie dollars, usually about .75. I have a dose of the flu' & am not thinking straight, so I'll get back to you. Another APUG'r from Melbourne PM'ed me with interest so I'll ponder it all awhile.

before you buy from the suplier I would get a sample to test (if you havent already) to ensure that it is of the right quality. You can get varying results as I found once.....

blokeman-

Take Tom up on his offer. I've heard nothing but high praise for the Chinese amidol, and this from the best Azo printers out there.

Blokeman, take Tom up on his offer! I did! I pm'd him and he was nice enough to sell me a pound. I live close buy so shipping is not a problem for me. You need to strain the Amidol after mixing but it is very good from what I've read. It's is sure great to have fellow artists sharing products with one another. Thanks again Tom.

Hi Blokeman,
let me know if you go ahead witht the purchase here in Australia. I live in Sydney but I'm sure we could sort out postage.

I'd also like to test a little before we outlay so much money.

Thanks, Matt.
