Of course, the English monarchy had already ceded away the power to tax way back in 1776, and the USA brought that into their law when they came into being.
Same applies to Canada - you need a law pssed by Parliament to tax.

Exactly Parliament, not the goofy quasi kingdom in the US. King Charles III can't just decide to bomb Iran (can he?)

One tariff he might not be able to continue is the di minimus one, since it applies to everyone. That covers all items imported to the US under $800 from everywhere. It;s not an emergency or security issue like certain items like rare earth or conflicts like the Russian-Ukrainian war. It;s just a simple tariff that Congress has to pass. So those who sell and shop for small items might find relief soon.

it should have never been posted in the 1st place. This is a photo site.

Tariffs have been discussed in great detail here because they have affected the cost of film and photo products being imported into the US as well as forum members buying and selling photo products internationally. You're new to the forum so you missed those threads. Regardless, political comments, personal attacks, and other similar attacks are not allowed.

I don't envy the moderation team in dealing with the current global political environment. Certainly in my lifetime I can't think of a scenario where our ability to enjoy the hobby was as directly tied to political outcomes as it is now.

Currently, we are hoping that people will get this out of their systems, and the novelty will wear off, allowing the thread to taper off.
Unless something particularly relevant to photography comes up, we will probably lock the thread soon.
We have only left it in place this long because the tenor of the posts hasn't been contentious.
And because people who buy the photographic supplies and equipment that concern the membership are affected by the results of this - including the people in the USA, the people who export to the USA, and all of us who are affected by the resulting chaos in the marketplace.
Personally, I predict the chaos will continue for a very long time, and we all will suffer greatly from it.
