American Photographic Patents: The Daguerreotype & Wet Plate Era 1840-1880 Hardcover,
by Janice G. Schimmelman
NEW still in the original shrink-wrap. I continue to reduce my library.
"Photography was anticipated by the scientific leaders of the world, and when it finally became a reality with Daguerre's announcement in 1839, word spread as fast as possible. American painter and inventor Samuel Morse visited Daguerre soon after his announcement and wrote home about the new process. Within a year of Morse's return to America, inventive Yankees began patenting inventions to improve the process.
This book lists 810 invention and 22 design patents pertaining to a wide range of photographic processes, equipment and methodology. The list is in numerical order and includes the patent number, patent title, the name of the inventor, his or her residence, and the date the patent was issued. An introduction ( including a bibliography) accompanies the list, and 41 patents are illustrated."
