Ambrotype formula with ethyl ether

Hi guys, just wondering how do you handle ethyl ether in terms of storage and handling. I read the MSDS and frankly, it reads more like a how-to for bomb making than anything else i've seen! I've been told to mix it 1:1 with ethanol for safety, but will it affect my formula? Since it is a little expensive (i have to buy it in the smallest available amount they have - 2.5L!) i would rather ask about other's experience rather than experimenting it...
