I am sitting here, going over my messages and I wanted to ask, has anyone heard of or tried Amidol in (one shot) film developers?

If so, what was the result and what did you find the effects to be?

How was print-ability?

Ansco 130 can be used with films, and just as some would use a pinch of Amidol in there paper developer, could this have been a successful method of film developing?

Be Safe, Be Happy and Godspeed to all.

There was a pyro formula I once tried where a small amount of amidol gave a rather modest speed boost, but made the developer a bit unpredictable too. It's hard to find good quality amidol sometimes. The last good batch I bought was from Artcraft in NYC. I used to use quite a bit of it for bromide papers. I would never mix amidol and a glycin based developer like 130. Tried that once, big mistake. Amidol can actually be batched to work in acidic solution, unlike most developers.

I'm using the Universal Amidol Developer recipe I found in the recipe section.
It's a very interesting article, and you have also some development times you could use as a starting point.
At the moment, I am using it with Wephota FO5, but later I'll try it with Wephota Ortho 25 and Foma200 and I'll post some results.

Cheers, for the responses.

I had "The Negative" by Adams out late last night and it seems he tried amidol for film, if I read correctly, and wrote that because of uneven staining, he dropped it.

I THINK it was amidol, no pyro, but I check later.

I did a search for "British Made Amidol and 'Aircraft Supply' came up with a half a pound, though I can no remember the price, off hand.

Since I have about 1000, sheets of Kodak AZO, old stuff that I have no done much with and even then in Ansco 130, I guess I'll be getting some of the Aircraft material and hope for the best.

Godspeed,
Eli

As promised, this is a result with UAD (negative scan).
Film is Wephota FO5

I like it very much.
