I always wanted a Nikonos V and got one from e-bay yesterday. They are cheap now.
My daughter is a swimmer, the YMCA pool is clear so I am going to load it up with some p3200 as soon as the 20mm lens arrives from KEH and I'm going to make a fun shot of my daughter.

I did some work with a Nik II off and on while I was a photographer at Purdue University in the 1990's the photo I posted as the icon was from a student recruitment publication from about 1995.

Nice. The Nikonos is an interesting camera. My own interest will probably settle on the II or III at some point. At this time, there are some Minolta WeatherMatic Dual-35 cameras here that are really meeting the needs for use in swimming pools for getting photographs of people during training activities. I was offered a Nikonos III last year with two lenses for $300, but there were (and still are) some other expenses at that time that prevented that from happening then. The main thing financially right now is paying for a completely unexpected rebuild of the engine in a Cessna C-172E. As Gilda Radner once said, "It always seems to be something."

My own interest in the Nippon Kogaku cameras still remains with the Nikon F and F2, up to the F2AS, and there are some Nikomat/Nikkormat models from the 1960s also. The Nikonos seemed like a neat camera for those weather conditions where the F or F2 might not be the best choice.

The original Calypso with its influence from Jacques-Yves Cousteau was a remarkable camera when it came out. I was still in Washington, D. C. at the time, and could not get one then -- "family issues" had a higher priority back then.

Nice camera, for sure. My Mikonos IV shutter is slowly failing on the high speeds and everyone tells me that there are no spares nowadays. It is a real shame as they are such a good camera to use with the 35mm lens. It is plenty sharp enough for most uses. Tough as nails too. Hope your shutter goes well.

HI All

Just joined this group to see what sort of discussions were going on around the Nikkonos cameras. I have the V, with flash, and close up accessories, + solid waterproof carrying case. I purchased this last year, and to be quite hones have yet to use it. I'm thinking of selling this, mainly because I don't have the time to us it as intended. If anyone in this group is interested, let me know and I'll supply further details, along with photos.

Thanks
Marc
