Now that Agfa is no more, I was wondering if there was a commercially manufactured product available to replace Sistan. I know some consider it unnecessary, especially if you tone your prints, but I like to use it anyway as an extra measure of protection. I heard that another company (Tetenal maybe?) makes something similar but I don't seem to see it on any of the photographic retailer's websites. Any word that maybe Ilford will market a similar product?

See this previous discussion: (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

AFAIK there is no one who imports Fuji's equivalent product, Ag Guard, to the U.S., but perhaps that will happen now. Sistan doesn't seem that hard to make, either, so maybe one of the hobbyist suppliers will give it a shot.

I'm not that thrilled with Sistan - I've gotten too many prints with bleached spots where the stuff has dried in drops. Kodak Brown Toner seems both more effective and less harmful. If only it wasn't for the smell ....

Thanks. It was the Fuji product I was thinking of. FWIW I've heard of others having problems with spots from Sistan but I let my prints hang from a line for about 30 min. so the excess drains off. I've never had any problems this way.
