Also, there are quite a few alternative color processes. The first half of 20th century had a great number of them. A lot of them are obsolete but it's still really interesting to research. Others like color gum bichromate and tricolor carbro are still practiced. So there is scope for experimentation for sure. The information is all here, including relevant books.
