mooseontheloose has sent me a message, that she needs a little more time, but is committed to completing the ALPX1.

10 sent out of 12, that´s good. Please send out the remaining prints as soon as you can!

Unfortunately, things came up and Dali and Mooseontheloose have not received a print yet. I have sent out a set of prints to both. I hope once these reach their destination, every participant will have received a print they like.

I really appreciate your initiative because:

_ I took part of APLX-1, sent my print but received none.
_ I took part of ALPX-2, sent my print(s) and received none.

I don't understand why people are taking commitments and do not fulfil them.... ? Is it that difficult to print something or even send an image alreay printed? I am not a hard-core printer but I have a half a dozen prints I could send right away. So I can sign for the next ALPX round but I wonder if it worth it as it is not the role of the OP to compensate for the participants "I don't care" attitude.

Very disappointing.

I know my life can get so busy that I can't find time to print, that's why I'm only signing up for this exchange if I already have the print in hand! And it has to be one that is good enough that I feel okay about sending it. So, this month ( September ) is supposed to be "rest and relaxation" and next month is supposed to be "sign up", but the way I'm approaching it is that I've got until the end of October to make a nice print and if I do I'll sign up. I've been planning this print for a few weeks now and getting supplies together.

I'm going to try something a little ambitious this time. I'm going to try to make a platinum-toned print on Namias' papier sepia printed on Fabriano Tiepolo paper. I'm going to use Mortensen's process to make the enlarged paper negative to print from ( the paper interpositive is made under the enlarger on photopaper that has been soaked in developer -- both the paper positive and negative can be worked on the back with a pencil to "dodge and burn" ). I've done all these individual steps before ( including printing a Mortensen enlarged paper positive sepiaprint on tiepolo ), but there are quite a few things that might go wrong. The original papier sepia can't be toned with platinum unless ferric oxalate is added to the formula, and I'm going to try to use ammonium ferric oxalate instead -- and I don't know if that's going to work. Mortensen's process is a bit fussy and I've picked a recently developed film negative, but there is no guarantee that I'll be able to produce a good enlarged paper negative from it. It's going to be fun to try... I've been wanting to make some more prints like this for a while, but the permanence of untoned papier sepia isn't great, and gold toning makes a very purple image, so now we'll see if adding afo can make platinum work.

Dali, you had bad luck making two prints but not receiving any. If mine works out, I'll be happy to make an extra and send it to you!

Thanks for your generous offer but I am not begging for a print, just asking those who willingly signed in to fulfil their commitment, nothing more. Am I asking too much?

Dali, I fully intend to send you a print, but my the last session I had in the darkroom did not end well, and then I had to leave - I’ve been gone all summer (will return to Japan this weekend). I’ve told this to ROK but without consulting me, he went ahead and sent a print anyways. I’ve been part of numerous exchanges and have never had this happen before (there’s usually a generous grace period o allow for things that get in the way). If I had known it was such a strict deadline that would shame those who hadn’t sent anything, I never would have participated. Sorry about that.

Sometimes things come up and you cannot continue your hobby as planned. I can understand that.
Most of us have a stash of prints we could sent out (or negatives we could repeat), but some don’t and everybody should be satisfied with the prints we give away.

So sometimes the exchange does not work out as expected. No excuses needed, and no shaming!

@Dali: I can understand your disappointment! It was tremendous bad luck that you have not received a print from any of the two rounds yet. I have been in contact with both members who committed to send you a print, and both have assured me that you will eventually receive a print from them.

So I sent out the prints as I wanted every participant of the first round to receive a print. And I wanted this done now, and get it off my list. I hope you will get the prints you were promised and I hope you will enjoy them. And receiving a pair of additional prints from me will (hopefully) not be a source of suffering.

Some years aga, when I started with participating BPX, I got nothing from three (!) rounds. That was very frustrating. The at-that-time-organisator sent me an extra print then.
Short: I know Dali's situation. It is discouraging.

I only subscribe to an exchange, If I have the prints ready. Except, may be, PCX.

FWIW, I've been participating in APUG/Photrio print exchanges for years, as has Rachelle (mooseontheloose). She can be relied upon to both fulfil her obligations and supply you with something that you will be very glad to receive.
Usually one receives her prints quickly, but she, like many others, leads a busy life and as a result, on a very infrequent basis, she takes a bit longer than she intended to get prints out. It is worth the wait.

A strict deadline? Prints were supposed to be send in April at the latest and we are in September now!!! I might be "old fashion" but to me a deadline is a deadline. Sorry, this is how I was educated.

Hi Bernd,

I just received your 2 loverly prints today. The effect of copper toning is striking!

You prints gave me an idea and I shall send you a print related to one of those you sent me. I have to plan it for my next lith printing session!

Thanks again for your dedication!

Thanks a lot. I am glad you like them.

The copper toner can be very intense, and I was surprised how much density I lost. The brick areas in the upper right were completly black before toning. But from what I read in the Tonings Book, the effects differ very much depending on the paper and process.

It´s intriguing that you have a print related to mine. I am looking forward to receive that
