The magic has been done, and the assignments are out. Everybody should have a message from me.

As this is not a blind print exchange, the "chain" is as follows:

[I´m not sure whether it is good to publish this, just giving it a try. This is for information only. Please be aware that nobody participating likes to receive a demotivational reminder or a PM saying "Where is my print?". Please don´t do that. Just don´t. If there is a problem, contact me. I will do my best to solve the problem.]

I sent two Lith prints to Finland: The first is a real one and the second a more experimental print. Experiments are important in Lith printing. Enjoy!. Uwe.

My salt print is on the way to Germany. The post office says it usually takes 1 to 2 weeks.

I did not scan or photograph it before sending.

I have printed, but I am not done toning the print yet. I hope I can send out my prints next week.

My wife mailed me that Adams letter found it's way to Germany. That was fast! I am very curious.

Dear Adam,

I opened the package and I am very impressed. I never saw such an image before. My wife was fascinated too. Af far as I understand the process is similar to cyanotype. We was surprised about the quality and how flat the paper is. I think it is not easy to get a soppy aquarelle paper that flat.

I saw that you had to pay a small fortune for the letter. If I send a letter this size to US I pay around 4$. You paid 44$!

Because I organize a print exchange too (BPX) I have to think about the recommended size. May be, slightly smaller prints may be sent for a postage which one expect for a letter, and not for a super heavy parcel.

Thank you again. It was a great thing to get such a print.

Hi Uwe,

I'm so glad you like the print. The process is just like cyanotype, but with different chemicals, and a better tonal range. Also, toning is easier. I used a gold toner. More information can be found here: http://www.alternativephotography.com/a-non-silver-manual-vandyke-brown/

To get the paper flat, I hang it until it's almost dry and then press it under weights between two pieces of glass for a few days. Very easy.

Yeah, postage was expensive, but what the hell!

My first attempt at a casein print is on its way to NedL. Having done a bit of gum, I was excited to give this a try. It's gonna take a few months/years/lifetimes to perfect, but so far I like the possibilities!

Well Im a lucky man, having just received a marvelous print of Yaquina Head Lighthouse from Denise Ross using handmade orthochromatic film, printed on hand made silver gelatin paper, matted and ready to frame and hang. Wonderful timeless picture, fine detail, with a softness you can get lost in. The back boarder works well. thanks Denise.

Cool! I've been wanting to play with casein for a long time, both as a binder for salt printing and for pigment prints ( I would use AFC or another iron salt instead of dichromates, but the same idea ). Can't wait to see one with my own eyes.

I've received a 4-color casein print of the Colorado River from jim10219. I like it a very much, thank you!
Nice dead matte surface and I like the somewhat muted pastel colors. Makes me want to give casein a try.
I'm curious to know what kind of paper it was printed on.

Thanks! And I used Fabarino Artistico 300lb. Hot Press Extra White sized with diluted PVA. Though I bet a lot of papers would work well with the process since it's not as finicky about pH levels as cyanotypes and not as delicate as gum prints.

I just received Dali's lith print. Very nice! I love the mood of the deep shadows on bones. It adds a sense of dynamism to a static subject. I've long wanted to give lith printing a try, but haven't gotten around to it yet. It's cool to be able to study one up close. Thank you!

Just an update: I know May is the "rest and relaxation" period but that is probably when I'll be able to get into the darkroom in any capacity - I've just been too busy with work these past few weeks and I'm off to the UK on Monday. So Dali, you'll have to wait a little bit longer for mine, my apologies.
