Hello Everyone

I'm new to this website and posted the following in the Enlarging forum. Not being sure where the best place would be - I am repeating it here hoping some one can help.

I just received a micromega critical grain magnifier and it shows my Agfa Varioscop 6x9 enlarger is not aligned properly. I see how to alter the angle of the negative stage by altering the plane where the column fixes to the baseboard, so the whole tilt of the column is changed, but even with what seems excessive jacking up of the necessary corner, I still can't get it right.

I cannot see any adjustments available to me at or near the negative carrier or its supporting stage. It all seems absolutely fixed and no adjustment possible.

Can anyone help please? Am I missing something obvious ....

Many Thanks ...... freecitizen

Welcome to APUG.

One post is usually enough, because most here use the "New Posts" function to monitor things.

Of the three planes - Negative, Lens, Baseboard - the Negative and Lens alignment is both the most critical, and the hardest to adjust.

Which planes are out of alignment?

The Varioscop is quite similar to the Leitz Focomat IIc, and I don't think it's possible to adjust anything actually, apart from the autofocus. My Focomat is from the late 50s, has probably been used professionally for many years before I got it, and everything is perfectly aligned. As long as it hasn't received some serious damage (they are very solidly built), and all the parts are in the right place, it should be aligned. Perhaps you should check carefully to see if everything put together properly?
