I have managed to persuade Alan Ross to teach two workshops in Ireland in July this year. Each is 4 days long. The first will focus on field and camera work, and it will take place in several scenic Irish locations, including Dublin and County Wicklow. The second one is his well-known printing workshop, taking place in a professional darkroom and a studio very close to Waterford. Here are the full details:

Exploring Your Photographic Vision, Dublin, 23–26 July, 2016

Crafting the Fine Silver Print, Waterford, 30 July–2 August, 2016

To those of you who don't know Alan, have a look at his web page. In short, he is: an amazing photographer whose work hangs in galleries and prestigious museums around the world, and who has learned his craft by assisting Ansel Adams. I am proud to say that he is also a personal friend, and a great guy to meet, who always somehow figures out a practical way to help photographers improve.

For the avoidance of doubt, I have no financial interest in these workshops. I am helping Alan organise and run them because I feel passionate about bringing his level of skill and art to Europe, where that kind of photographic and process dedication is not quite known, and might never again be.

Quick update. While the first workshop, the camera and field-work on locations in Ireland, is filling up nicely, the second one, darkroom-oriented, still has enough availability to warrant a short extension of the early bird date. I just heard from Alan that the deadline for the discounted price will be extended by a week, to 22nd May. Alan is also offering an additional session, before or just after the workshop, to those who sign-up before the 22nd.

Either way, if you have ever wanted to push your photography and to learn from a major, acknowledged master, this is a chance not to miss, as it may not happen again...at least not as likely to happen in Ireland or Europe!

Man, what a great opportunity! I have known Alan for many years and he is not only a terrific teacher and photographer, but a heck of a nice person. In addition, his wife Julie is a ball of fun so anyone who has a chance to go to this is sure to not only learn a great deal about photography but will have a wonderful time. I have always wanted to go to Ireland as the photographic opportunities are endless and the people are wonderful, if I could find a way to get there, I would! Thanks for posting this Rafal!

I would love to attend either workshop, and could possibly do it as I'm heading to Europe again this summer, but unfortunately they are 1-2 weeks too early for me.

The camera field-work workshop is now full, and I cannot wait to meet the group. I have seen a few photos shared by the attendees and they look amazing. However, Alan still has a few spaces on the darkroom workshop. If you fancy 4 intensive days in Waterford, please consider joining. This is a unique chance to learn and practice (everyone gets an enlarger) your darkroom skills under Mr Alan Ross's watchful eye in Ireland:

Crafting the Fine Silver Print, Waterford, 30 July–2 August, 2016

PS. Alan may also be able to accommodate 1 or 2 people for a one-to-one day of photography and learning while he is in Ireland, please get in touch if you are interested. Last year three APUGers did that and I think they were very pleased.
