I've read all the various opinions on xrays and film however can traditional b+w paper be fogged in any way by airport xrays?

very unlikely. The problem affects high speed films the most, and paper is basically very slow film (equivalent to 5 or 10).

However I'd avoid leaving it in checked luggage (which gets a higher dose). Carry it through with you.

There are two kinds of X-rays used for security:
The ones at the check-in gates and the ones at baggage inspection.
The ones used for baggage are not so kind to films as the ones used at the check in gates, so carry sensitive materials with you.

I really do not know. By the time I worked at an airport, we were concerned only with film.
