Air travel with 120 film

Chocolate bars seem to appear as a possible explosive in the xray machines, so when they spot them on carry-on, they need to inspect.

Two vultures traveling across the US by airplane decided that they would not like the airline food. They each took a dead possum and a dead raccoon with them. At the gate, the vultures were not allow to board the airplane. It seems that Federal Regulations prohibit passengers from having more than one carrion!

It's usually mylar, not metal anyway. You can walk right through the metal detector with it. I've done so with about 20 rolls of 120.

I just take it off because I figure it saves me the time if they want me to open it up and inspect it. Kind of pre-emptive on my part, but I hate those damned lines so much I'll speed it up anyway I can!

Does anybody have any experience going through UK customs with film? I'll be heading over in about a year, and if there's anything funny I'd love to know!

I just got back from a trip to Scotland, and passed through security in Toronto, Heathrow and Edinburgh.

I had a Pentax 67, 4 lenses, and about 25 rolls of 220 film in a Lowepro backpack.

I ran the whole thing through the scanners. Nobody blinked in the UK, just passed it through. The guy in Toronto insisted on opening the case, and pawed through my equipment, picking up lenses by the lens caps (!!!) - I was waiting for one to drop .

Fairly consistent - the only place I have been hassled, on a few occasions, is Toronto. This includes most major West European and US airports.

BTW, the films were in a clear ziplock bag, only removed from the cardboard boxes.

Yes, but you let your film be x-rayed.

You can insist on hand inspection. Further, since there is no metal in 120/220 rolls (if not foil wrapped) you can just put it in your pocket and walk through the metal detector if you want.

Since Sanders here told me that - I've been doing it all the time.
