The extensive collection of Atget prints on show at the Art Gallery of NSW is not to be missed if you have an opportunity. My fears of dim lighting were false, although the gallery has been conservative with light levels.
For the rest of this week organised parties of school kids won't happen and it wasn't overly crowded (at 10am opening time anyway)
Most prints are albumen and well preserved--unlike some of the Australian albumen prints I've seen on show there before which had cracks.
Being a wide selection the results vary, most very impressive, a few flat and dull; he was at his best with architecture.
He appears to have accepted that vignetting that sometimes plagues view camera operators: at the top of the frame, and it is apparent in a number of prints.
Worth a visit.
