Agfa Superpan circa 1984

Hi all,

I received 10 rolls of Agfa Superpan that's been cold stored. It expired in 1984 and I want to try it out.

Any comments or advice?

Seemingly the error was on my side. I thought of the Agfa Superpan of the 40's and that there was a typing error.

But there seems to have been a film of this designation in the USA in the 80's.

Well, I shot 1/2 a roll at 160 (box=200) and developed in D-76 1+1 for 11 minutes. Fixed in Ilford Rapidfix 1+9 for 10 minutes.

Film was a bit fogged so I refixed for another 6 minutes. Negatives look good and the strip is drying now.

I did some looking around and I have a feeling that the current Rollei Superpan is the same stuff. Rollei suggests developing in D-76 at 1+1 for 14 minutes. So based on that, I think I underdeveloped the first run.

But I'm optimistic that I will get some good images. I think I'm going to like this old film.

The Rollei Superpan is definitely a different film.


Your film might be an Agfapan based surveillance film.

The Agfa Superpan was sold as a consumer film (in orange boxes) rather than as a professional film (which were in silver boxes). I bought a brick of 10 35mm cassettes in the 1980's from a dealer in the UK (can't remember who). They were all used up long ago. I don't know whether the film was officially on the UK market or not. The speed on the box was 200 ASA. It was definitely marked on the box as made in Germany. I doubt if it was related to any other Agfa made film, past or present.

Yep, that's exactly what I have. I'll do some more experimenting this weekend.

Good or bad, might as well shoot it, right?
