Agfa Structurix film, anyone used it?

Hi all, I was curious if anyone here has used this stuff.

I am thinking of maybe getting some larger sheets to use in 120, but I’m not really sure if it would be worth it. There’s a box on eBay that I’m currently eyeing. 100 4.5x10” sheets for around $130 after tax/ship.

It seems to be more expensive than Fuji medical stuff, but it comes in long 70mm rolls which is appealing.

if anyone has any direct experience using this stuff, I would love to know!
 
The D-number tells you the speed/grain of the film, I know that. It is also very high contrast.

Of all the Structurix D-numbers, D6W is the one you want. D4W is the next easiest to work with. These have the closest to pictoral contrast with reasonable development, and D4 is roughly 100 ISO speed.

D numbers - ISO speeds:

D2 ISO 32
D3 ISO 64
D4 ISO 100
D5 ISO 200
D6 ISO 200
D7 ISO 320
D8 ISO 400

Yep, D5 and D6 are both ISO C4 class, so both are about 200 ISO speed.

Ahh, so you’re the one who bought that! I was mulling over buying that but took too long. I messaged them to see if I can buy another roll from them as it looks like they have more than 1 roll, but if they don’t I’m more than happy to work out a trade.
 
Well, I just bought 1600 feet of D4 and D5 in 70mm… guess we’ll see what happens!

So, update on this:

They have not shipped it in over two weeks, when I poked them about it last week, they said that it was eBay’s fault because somehow the order was canceled on their end? That’s annoying.

Except it gets worse. I talked to Dr.No about the roll they bought, and theirs came completely open and exposed. So, the seller then decided to give two of the rolls that I purchased to them, refund me the cost of two rolls (that’s good I guess), and then just blame selling those rolls out from under me on eBay saying that I canceled the order again. Except that doesn’t work when you just refunded me for the order that I clearly have not canceled.

I think this will be the first time that I do not rate a sale positively, because this was not a positive experience. This wasn’t even a neutral experience. This was absolutely a negative experience.

I do not blame Dr.No for this, talking to them. It seems very clear that they did not realize that the rolls the seller were giving them were the rolls that I had bought. I am just very annoyed at this situation.
 
Ok yeah this film is fucked.

Don’t write it all off before you’ve tried it. I have received multiple bulk rolls that have been opened by customs or exposed to full daylight and I have saved most of them. The tightly rolled film keeps the light out and you should get good film after about half a dozen unwindings . One was 9 inch aerial plus x. The other was a bulk loader. When I opened the package I saw film flopping around inside the holder I shut it in a hurry and after two rolls I got film that was more than half good. It turned out to be Panatomic X. Later rolls were fine and that film hardly ages
 
A tight roll breifly exposed to light might have a chance, yeah. But unfortunately this film wasn’t in a tight roll when I received it, I don’t know if that’s how it’s normally packed but the roll was very loosely wound. It also wasn’t on a daylight spool, which is what saved that plus-X. That and the fact that the outer box also has a giant hole in it, not just the bag, made it exceedingly unlikely any of this film was salvageable.

Some time ago, an antiques dealer was selling boxes of film. The listings were very detailed, with lots of photos, including the dimensions of the box and… the film inside. In one such listing, he had opened a box to photograph a film that I’d been searching for a long time for testing purposes… I was absolutely furious when I saw the photos. I sent him a message telling him to stop opening them and destroying them, but he made excuses, saying there was no way to take measurements and photos of what was inside otherwise. He never did believe me that he was destroying the film…
 
Unfortunately it seems like people just don’t understand how film works anymore.

I mean, I guess to be fair, people probably didn’t understand how it worked back when it was in widespread use either, but they at least understood opening it was bad…
