Agfa still cranking

Yesterday I was in Maine's largest photo store, and the owner told me that while he hasn't heard anything official out of Agfa, except that they are "restructuring their finances," they are obviously still in full production, since he's been getting regular shipments of both film and paper from them. In fact, he said, "they're shipping like crazy."

So, that's good news for us MCC lovers.

I have returned to using the Agfa paper also. With Kodak gone and my experiences with inconsistencies in Forte paper looks like it will be Ilford and Agfa for the long haul with regards to enlarging.

Agfa has, apparently, discontinued the production of APX in everything but 35 mm. Part of the "financial restructuring'" There just aren't enough of us MF and LF folks left for them to be able to make it pay, I guess.

But in comparisons with Fuji ACROS, I preferred the Fuji anyway, so I'm happy as long as they keep the paper coming.

Agfa 120 400 APX

I don't know if anyone is interested, but Freestyle Photographics has Agfa Pro APX 120 film for sale at this time.

Some months ago, Agfa sold as much as possible to get money. Some retailers used this opportunity to stock up with good prices. But be aware, this is absolutely your last chance to buy original Agfa 120 film. Even if Agfa will still coat film in the future, the facility for cutting and packaging 120 film simply does not exist anymore. So any future rollfilm with a Agfa emulsion (like planned by Maco) will be a third-party product with maybe lower quality standards and lesser quality control than you had experienced from Agfa.
So, if you are a Agfa B&W fan, buy as much as you can today. Kept properly, this film should still be good in 10 years, and in the future the prices definitvely won't go down, as the quality won't rise.

They still list APX 400, but not the 100.

Alternately, switch to a film that is still being made by those companies that wish to continue selling it to us. That way, they get to stay in business and you get fresh film. If Agfa do not want my money, I'm sure Ilford will be only too happy to take it off my hands...

Well I don't know about that dealer in Maine, but mine hear in Chicago hasn't had a non-backordered shipment in mos. They ordered MCC111 last month and were told it would be along sometime in Oct. Does'nt sound "like crazy" to me.

Availability of paper at B&H and Adorama is very spotty. Lots of "Out of Stock" and "On Backorder"

I very much agree with this sentiment - thats how I see the Kodak situation. But, with Agfa, I didnt get that impression (of willful dropping of film, etc.). Mismanagement, sure - perhaps, but at least they have an excuse: they f'd up! And ran out of money...
Still, I think Ilford deserves my money more - for what its worth, makes me feel better to spend it on them.

AgfaPhoto is on record that they made the *willful* decision to dump production of 120 film no less than 18 months ago.

Sorry - but very intentional, mismanagement or no.

Agfa MCP is my favourite VC paper, but if Agfa decide to shut down production of either Paper or film, the obvious solution is to find an alternate. Ilford MGIV is there and is boosting production.

No way am I going to waste my money purchasing old stock (to freeze) when new suppliers are more than happy to take up the slack.

I'll get used to the new paper.

Was looking on Retro Photographic's website the other day and they say Fomapan is very similar to APX, so I'll give some of that a go, or maybe Classic Pan, esp for LF work.
