Hello
I've had to buy some Agfa fixer instead of my usual brand. The label says "Tank solution (AP 44) 1 + 7 and (AP 70) 1 + 5. Can anyone tell me if that is the paper and negative mixixng ratios? I don't know what AP 44 and AP 70 stands for. Any help appreciated.

Wait I'm guessing you want to know how to use it with B&W film? Sorry don't know. I'd go with the C-41 dilution and test it.

I use it 1+4 for b&w film and paper. Good stuff! Very cheap when B&H puts it on the discount shelf.

Thank you both for the quick replies. Yes it is for B&W film and paper, sorry I didn't really give enough info. And yes it was remarkably cheap. Thanks again.

Here in Australia FX-Universal is now labelled with black and white dilutions as well as the colour dilutions (well, my last 5Litre bottle did, anyway)

For black and white, they say 1+6 for film and fibre and RC paper, and 1+5 for replenishment.

I agree with the above post which recommends 1+4 on the grounds of more rapid processing and less frequent disposal. I did read somewhere that FX-Universal's capacity is less than for standard acidic rapid fixers. I don't know if it's true. I tend to not aim to get the last bit of use out of fixer. The low price makes it less painful to tip it out.

It's a nice fixer to use, since it is about neutral pH and doesn't smell much.

Thanks John. Mine is a 1 litre bottle and probably old stock as I buy from a very small retailer who can't afford to carry much darkroom stock anymore. I like to support this shop whenever possible as the gentleman who runs it was very helpful to me when I decided to set up a darkroom.
