Do you know if there is a difference between the two type of multigrad filtre?

If yes (that would make sens), do you know if it exist an equivalence table or so?

I ask the question for a friend who use to use Agfa filtre and now is oblige to use the Ilford set because of the enlarger. He finds that Agfa filtres seems to be harder. He has problem to obtain the same results as before.

I hope my English was clear enough.

There may well be a fairly small difference but it shouldn't really matter. I used Ilford Filters with Agfa Multicontrast, and Kodak Polycontrast and tey all use similar filtration.

Try them, the worst is that you can't get a maximum Gd5 or minimum contrast OO

It is unlikely that the two sets of filters will be identical - in fact, is rather likely that a given filter from one set would yield noticeably different results compared with the corresponding filter from the other set. That is why it is recommended that one never intermix filters from two different manufacturers (or even different vintages from the same manufacturer).

That said, both sets should provide gradations in contrast from hard to soft, and ultimately, that is really all that matters.

I have a set of the cheap Varycon filters. They were half the price of the Ilford ones, so I thought what the heck. Work fine for me, a very beginner darkroom enthusiast.
