Hi, I would like to inform all of you that A&O Imaging Solutions who bought AGFA are selling the following chemicals on the german eB*y:
Rodinal, Neutol, Sistan, Agefix and MC-Developer, separately and in kits.
You can find whole list on Dead Link Removed address.
Regards!
Andy

Why only 500ml bottles?
Would be better to put also 1lt or 5lt packages??
This is my speculation only, but most users of b&w processing chemicals are infrequent users or hobbists, and they prefer smaller packages. Also, for each production run of a fixed volume, smaller packages will bring greater profit.

Perhaps the German - which I don't read - explains it, but do you think this is old stock from what they bought from Agfa or new that they are manufacturing?

Try: Dead Link Removed for a US distributor. I asked this exact question and was assured that they were supplying new, not NOS. As it is pretty easy to ascertain whether rodinal is good or past it's prime I doubt they would find a ready market if the product was not up to par. I have not ordered any for stock yet so I have not had an opportunity to look at a package for date coding etc.
Celac.

Last info I have is that the former Agfa chemical plant in Vaihingen is running again. Prices are up 20-30% and we have new Rodinal again. The only problem is their logistics.
The only question is that how long they can stay in business? But nobody can predict this statement.
Their homepage: Dead Link Removed

Best regards,

Robert

I got some old stock before the plant closed down and, if I go at the pace I'm currently going, I'm going to need more in a couple months. I'll be trying the new stuff then. Does anyone know if it's the same formula as the old version modern Rodinal or not?

A&O Imaging WEB Store

I found the photochemicals WEB store of A&O imaging Dead Link Removed and there are a lot more products in it then on eB*y. I think this will be a better way to order if you live in Europe like me, but the problem is that they salles there only dealer quantities. Maybe if we demonstrate enough interest they will reconsider their store policy The order manager name is Mrs. Rita Schumacher. I wrote her a letter and she forwarded it to their Bulgarian distributor. They from their part ensured me, some mounts ago, that they will NOT sell AGFA products for manual processing, so I wrote second letter to Mrs. Schumacher in which I was more insistent. Now I am waiting for her answer. I'll inform you about it later.

Stephanie, you have other alternatives as well: The Formulary sells their own version of "Rodinal", you can try to track down Calbe R09 (Freestyle in LA???, or is it J&C?), or mix your own from scratch. A formula is in Anchell's "Darkroom Cookbook". Sodium Hydroxid is a componant of Rodinal and Red Devil lye was an easy product to find to sub for sod hydrox. However, many grocery and hardware stores have pulled it off the shelves because it's used my meth users. I don't know, I only do LDS

Upon further thought, I believe Freestyle is now selling the A&O version of Rodinal.
I have read in a thread or two about the new version being slightly different, and as with any "clone", testing is a good idea.

Yes, it is made in the same factory by the same people using the same formula.

To correct you the A&O version is Agfa Rodinal, anythıng else sold under the Rodınal name in the US or Europe is an imitatıon based on older versıons produced by Agfa ın the past.

Rodinal

I've used the new rodinal from freestyle and for all practical purposes it is exactly the same. My negatives look the same as before. People should try things before making blanket statements.
A+O did not buy the formula and rights to this stuff to fool the public. I would rather be using this "clone" than any of the other so called rodinals out there.....spend your money on the real deal and we will have Rodinal for the next 100 years....
Best, Peter

Hi Bart,

according to the pictures of the Rodinal bottles, it is new stock.
And the prices are very correct!

(working on a nice print for you)

Ok dumb question, is anyone selling the stuff in Canada?

In fact they are back with the old Agfa packing (so they are not using the latest Agfa Photo logo), which is a good idea I think. To make things super clear they can add "made by A&O" if they have used up their paper packings and have to go to the printery again.
No, nothing has been changed, why should they. Same plant, same people, same machines and same suppliers to make those chemicals. Only their management has been changed: From Leverkusen to Neuss.

For Canada: Ask your former Agfa Photo dealer/distributor and otherwise buy it somewhere in Europe

Best regards,

Robert

My bottle says AGFA Rodinal. Made in Germany. I believe that he's right that Freestyle is getting the A&O product, but a comment from someone at Freestyle would confirm.

Bill,

DC bought several pallets of Agfa Rodinal last december, so you won't start seeing the new stuff locally until they run out, likely next year.

Hi Mawz,

If Downtown Camera is sitting on a mountain of the stuff, I feel better.
