I am consider purchasing a 76m/250 foot roll of this film, the film which is 240mm wide. My plan is to slit it to produce 220 film. I plan to use it myself and won’t be trying to sell it, unless I find that I have an offcut, which I would sell at cost.

The supply seems mostly to be in India, and what I see on eBay is mostly 10 to 11 years out of date. Buying out of date film is always carries with it an element of risk, but if there is a reasonable chance of success, I may purchase a roll.

Have any APUGers had an experience purchasing Aviphot film from any of the resellers, in India and elsewhere? If so, would you care to share your experiences with me, either in a post or via a PM?

Fourteen years ago I made a post, looking for information about Leicas, as I was then looking to buy a good used one, as a user’s camera. I received 50+ responses from Leica users, and I found them to be as informative and helpful as they were positive. Soon afterwords I purchased a nice M4-P, which became my carry around camera, and remains so to this day.

So, if anybody has any information at all, I would welcome your input!

I have bought from India. No problems with the people, the process of delivery or the film. It is expired. If you haven’t used expired film before, you might want to consider using some first, to see if you like the results.

But every new day brings challenges to people. And one can never guarantee the future.

I have bought from various sellers in India Aviphot - they ship fast, by airmail (distances don't matter much). Unfortunately, customs will probably be interested in your package

Like mentioned before, a) it is expired film so you should expect some fog or work with a developer/ developer method to reduce fog, and b) keep in mind it is aerial film which mean high contrast so should be used with a developer that somehow reduce the contrast.

That aside, I almost went though one 90mts roll of unperforared that have rolled and used myself with good result. Also bought 9" roll to cut for 4x5 and so far had good results.

Probably what I mean is that you should not expect it to work as fresh film but test and find the best method to use it.

I have used POTA developer and a Vitamin C/Phenidone developer with good results. Also F76+ have worked great (although a bit more contrast but great fog reduction). Expect to use it at either 80/100 ASA for Best results.
