Purchased on eBay from India some months ago. It has been sitting at room temperature next to other film, which is fine.

Pulled out 2m to test slitting and rolling. Film was intermittently sticking when unraveling. It has big ugly blotches. What could those be?

I too vouch for moisture (that has dissolved antihalation layers here and there), making film stick to itself. Have the same problem with Astrum / Svema in 135/36 I ordered from eBay, but so much worse than this.
An idea: maybe it can be saved somewhat by washing the entire roll and drying it before shooting? That'd avoid the damage from film sticking to itself.

You'd loose antihalation layers and time in storage, but gain Kodak HIE blooming effects.

Thanks all. This is 70mm x 45m film. I pulled another 4m or so and the stains are getting smaller so there is a chance some of the roll is unaffected. Bummer indeed.

It seems fairly common that people who get the surplus 70mm Aviphot 200 long rolls from India report some heat damage on the outer windings of the roll, and that it gets better once you go inward. I have a roll in the fridge but have not examined it yet.

I have emulsion mottling in my rolls of Aviphot 200 70mm x 45m from India. My more expired Kodak Plus X Areo actually performs better. I guess it is all a matter of how the film was stored.

That's weird.
About a year ago, I bought two rolls of 60 meters. But I never opened them. I recently decided that this stock might be gone and last month I ordered another two rolls of 60 meters (perforated) and two rolls of 45 unperforated. The seller of the 45 meter non-perforated rolls is the same one I got them from a year ago, but I got the new 60 meter ones from a different seller. I opened one box each to see what the condition was - no similar stains on both.
Perhaps it will be interesting to tell about the boxes themselves.
The 60 meter perforated rolls come in HUGE plastic boxes. The film inside is coreless, very road wound, and I have a feeling it will fit into a standard 100 foot metal box. The empty space is sealed with foam, and the film itself is placed in an UNSEALED bag.
Unperforated 45 meter film comes in a small compact plastic box, close in size to standard metal 100 foot. The film is wound on a metal reel, packed in a very well sealed bag.
Both versions have an expiration date of 2012, the non-perforated film is emulsion 67038303 from 12/2012 and the perforated film is 67037702 from 06/2012.

By the way, the two films have a different color…

@lamerko my 45.7m roll is the same. Same packaging (metal reel, plastic bag, tight box), same batch no.

I've heard of the mottling issue but this gross damage. Water must have gotten into the bag (seems too much for condensation?). It locally dissolved the anti-halation layer which transferred to the adjacent emulsion side and then dried there?

I guess I'm unlucky but I should have inspected it asap. Although I see I'm not the only one sitting on those for 6+ months 😅 . I'll pull more film tonight until it stops sticking.

@blee1996 how much film had the mottling issue?

Yes, most likely condensation. Which is strange because these people in India usually don't have refrigeration. Can you provide information from which ebay seller you ordered this film from?

It was vintage.hut. Note that I don't hold it against the seller as it seems most people are happy with the film. Buying old film comes with risks and I should have inspected it upon reception.

Oh, I'm not saying anything about the sellers. They always responded very quickly and without errors. And more importantly, they answered the questions I asked honestly.
I got the non-perforated film from arhamworld, but it seems to have been the last two rolls. But anyway, they should be from the same batch.
I'm looking at the available numbers now though - it seems to only be where you got it from. The back label where the emulsion numbers and expiration date is looks fine in the photos BUT the front label is something wrong. Can you confirm if the label looks the same for you? On my rolls, this label is quite different...
