Agfa APX100: What development times do you use?

Which reminds me that we have here almost no French APUG members in this English forum and I see here a lot of Belgium and Dutch members, even both of them have their own language forums.

So maybe you're right ........ (excusé moi).
 
I love APX 100 in 120 size. I first used it on old abandoned trucks & such at a farm and devved in Rodinal 1+50. The midtones were smooooth! Personally, I use a spot meter, EI 100, 1+50 dilution, 17 min. at 68F, dichroic head, Adorama VC/RC paper.

Do you guys have some sort of special equipment to get such small amounts of rodinal so precise? My resluts are not that stable (maybe it's from another factor) but that could be from trowing 20ml of rodinal in a 1l measuring cup and filling it with water afterwards. (I know that's more like 49+1)

What should be the biggest difference between 1+25 and 1+100?

And maybe this question is stupid but how should I see 'ilfordsol s' compared to rodinal? (I currently have to travel to get the rodinal but a local store sells ilforsol s)

I use two things. A small beaker that measures in 1ml and a syringe that also measures in 1ml.

As for the difference between 1+25 and 1+100, I have noticed better tones, sharpness, and 1+100 brings down high contrast scenes (very common here in new mexico).

Sorry to hear you have to travel for rodinal, but make the best of it. Buy a lot and take a long a camera and photograph everything along the way.

I use a syringe, no problem measuring down to 1 ml. With Rodinal 1:25 give more contrast and grain, 1:100 less contrast, less grain and higher accutance if you don`t agitate too much.

A 10 ml glass cylinder (maatcylinder) is no problem to get or a 10 ml (or less) plastic syringe from the local pharmacie will also do it.

Very good summurized, special the last thing (less agitation) is important. Further on the highest dilutions you'll get some staining effects with Rodinal.

Strange that even in Amsterdam you have already some problems to get your darkroom stuff. Further the big difference with Ilfosol-S is that this developer can have already a "sudden death" within 3 months of stocking your concentrate and that the Rodinal will survive far over 3 years.

I use a syringe used for giving medicine to kids/dogs/elderly (can get them at any drugstore)

The difference between 1+25, 1+50 and 1+100 are differences in graininess, contrast, time, and tonality.

Ilfosol S is a completely different animal, good developer, but gives the negatives a more "plain vanilla" flavor.

 
APX100 in Pyrocat-HD?

Yep, this thread is greatand I like Rodinal too but.....

Anyone care to suggest starting times with Pyrocat-HD??
 


I use Agfa's Studional for practically all my APX development. Yields super fine grain and a smoother tonality than Rodinal. In Europe, Studional is known as "Rodinal Special."

I go with 1:15 for 6min @ 20c with continuous agitation 1st minute, then 5sec every 30sec. Comes out the same, every time. This also works very well on Neopan 400!
 
I was reading the AGFA film chemicals document, and they say that with APX100, for 1+50 Rodinal w/ 17 mins of devel, the EI is of 160. Now the question is for those who use the 1+50 dilution: do you shoot at EI 100 or at EI 160 ? I'm never sure whether I should always adjust my EI to the one predicted for the development.

So far I exposed APX100 at 100, and developped at 1+25, inversions each 30 secs, for 7 mins, and results were very good. Mind you, I did not analyse the negs like crazy either.
 
I have tested APX 100

at EI 200 1+50 (destilled water) 17 min. 20 C Agfa movement,

with 2 min. presoak (water)

Is there a formula for a Rodinal equivalent, Agfa are on death row are they not?
 
The rodinal formula is published, and Calbe R09 is made just as published.
